HUNTING INFORMATION

Colorado now has more deer and elk than we have had for 100 years. Moffat County is famous worldwide for its wildlife, and big-game hunting is unmatched anywhere in the lower 48, with over 30,000 hunters visiting each fall. Others prefer to hunt with a camera, as it's open-season year-round for viewing thundering herds of elk, pronghorn antelope, wild mustangs, mule deer, bighorn sheep, and even moose. With more than 1.7 million acres of public lands in Moffat County (which include 10 Wilderness Study Areas), you can also get up close and personal with smaller mammals like the playful river otter, thousands of species of birds, and various types of colorful reptiles. Visit the Brown's Park National Wildlife Refuge, a wildlife oasis, and you may take home a prize-winning shot.

From the end of August through December, Moffat County plays host to resident and non-resident sportsmen. Northwest Colorado has many campgrounds right in the heart of the wildlife habitats. If you need a guide, packer, want to be dropped at a camp, or need information about private land hunting or other services, contact the Moffat County Visitor Center at 970-824-5689 or 1-8MOFFAT4FUN (1-866-332-8436).

NOTICE TO ALL HUNTERS

Colorado law requires that anyone born on or after January 1, 1949 must have a hunter education certificate to purchase a hunting license. This certificate must be presented at the time you wish to purchase a hunting license and it must also be carried on your person while hunting.

If you have not taken a hunter education course, it would be in your best interest to complete one before arriving in Colorado. If you already have a certificate, be sure you bring it with you when you come to hunt.

Travel with care and have a safe and successful hunt in Colorado.
