ELKHEAD RESERVOIR RECREATION AREA

Elkhead Reservoir, a man-made reservior located approximately 10 miles northeast of Craig, offers many recreational opportunities from fishing to hiking.

Easily accessible from Moffat County Road 29 and Routt County Road 78, Elkhead Reservoir offers camping and picnic areas, a boat launching ramp and a beach area.

The Recreation Area provides approximately 11 miles of recreational trails. Access to the trail is provided at the Elkhead landing/parking area, Greenwood's Cove, Cedar Bend, and East Beach. The trail is open in the spring, summer and fall to all forms of non-motorized modes of travel. In the winter months, the trail is also open to snowmobiles.

The Colorado Division of Wildlife manages the fishing and wildlife resources within the Recreation Area. Valid Colorado fishing licenses are required of anyone 15 years and older. Fishing is allowed on the water surface of the reservoir and along most of the 11 miles of shoreline.
